Especially if you want to experience the lush landscapes of Kerala, then my suggestion would be Vagamon. It is definitely one of the underexplored and underrated hill stations located in Kerala. During the winter season, not only you will experience the mist-covered mountains and cool breeze striking your face, but also be full of pine forests, and thick meadows. It doesn’t matter if you are a traveller looking for an adventure or something like a peaceful stay, Vagamon has it all.
How to reach
This hill station is well connected to all the major cities of Kerala.
By Air: The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport located at a distance of 100 km. From there you can either hire a private cab or use public transport.
By Train: The nearest train station is Kottayam located around 65 km from Vagamon. Private cabs and public transport are available from day to noon.

Best time to Visit
The best time to visit Vagamon is from September to March which is during the post-monsoon and winter seasons. Even the temperature during this period will be around 10-25c degrees which makes it comfortable for you to explore around. Surrounding will be filled with greenery considering it to be post-monsoon due to rains and a better time for sightseeing and adventure activities.
If you want to just relax with no plans for outdoor activities, then you can also visit during the monsoon season. This place will be vibrant during the rains. However, be careful of heavy rains and landslides.
The only time of year which I won’t recommend you to visit this place is during the summer. The temperature will be high and it won’t be comfortable for you to do anything besides sitting in your room all day.

The best thing about Vagamon is the lush greenery. You will never get enough of this view. These are spread over for kilometres and you can simply take a walk around or just sit there and enjoy the calm atmosphere. A tip from my side. Just sit here and meditate for a few minutes. 2. Explore the Pine forests
The pine forests here at Vagamon are a thing of beauty. The pine trees are so perfectly aligned here that you’ll never witness them at any other place than Vagamon. Clean air, fresh breeze and perfect nature make it the best place for you to just relax. If you are a photography enthusiast, then get ready to click tonnes of pics.
3. Visit the Tea plantation
This place is surrounded by the Tea plantation. The mountains here are filled with vast Tea gardens. The scenery of the mountains filled with these Tea plants is a sight to behold. If you are looking for Paragliding, Vagamon is the best place in South India for it. The perfect elevation needed for paragliding combined with the wind strength and open places makes it the best condition for paragliding. If you are an adventurous seeker, then this is a no-brainer for you.

You can find small waterfalls all around Vagamon. You can simply sit there peacefully listening to gushing water sounds surrounded by green scenery. Make sure you visit during the monsoon season to experience the full-fledged waterfalls.
